Home » News » ISSA Cyber Resilience SIG Drives Improvements to NIST Cybersecurity Standards

The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) Cyber Resilience Special Interest Group (SIG) has put together a task force which partnered with NIST, marking a meaningful turning point for the protection of critical assets.

Through the leadership and contributions of the ISSA Cyber Resilience SIG—representing more than 2,500 cybersecurity professionals globally—the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has received key recommendations submitted for NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-172, which focuses on the protection of critical systems and assets. Remaining recommendations will be further refined by the SIG and formally submitted to NIST through change requests for SP 800-53.

This workstream reflects extensive collaboration and expert engagement across the global cybersecurity community. Special recognition goes to Lorenzo Vacca for his exceptional leadership, dedication, and hands-on engagement in guiding this critical task force to success. Mr. Vacca is part of the Cyber Resilience SIG leadership team including Francesco Chiarini, Chairman of the SIG, CEO and lead instructor at High Value Target & head of cyber resilience of a global pharmaceutical company, and Mehdi Azaouioui, founder & CEO of Limber Security.

The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) International is a nonprofit professional association for information security and cybersecurity professionals, promoting cyber education, mentorship, and networking across more than 100 local communities worldwide. The Cyber Resilience SIG, one of ISSA’s largest special interest groups, brings together practitioners committed to advancing cyber resilience across all industries.

In addition to its standards work with NIST, the ISSA Cyber Resilience SIG hosts an annual Cyber Resilience Awareness Day Virtual Summit each October, aligned with National Cybersecurity Awareness Month in the United States, further supporting global awareness, education, and leadership in cyber resilience.
